41019 Turtle’s Little Oasis Review

41019_Turtles_Little_Oasis_1This 33-piece set features the cutest little turtle just relaxing in its little waterfront abode. The blue plate and tan plates do a pretty good job of representing the surf and sand. The turtle’s hut feels pretty substantial and overall the set is pretty nice for what it is even with a price tag of $4.99.

The best part of the set is the turtle and you can’t get it in any other set. The only drawback though is that with its bow on, it’s a little front heavy and has a tendency to tip over. Still, he’s pretty cute. This is one of three animal packs in Series 1. And with Series 2 revealed the other day, you can bet more cute animal packs will be made. Besides, how else would 3188 Heartlake Vet stay in business? We bought our set from Target, but they are also available at Walmart and LEGO Shop@Home

Laugh if you will, but this has been the largest set that I’ve built thus far…certainly a vast progression from sets such as the singular handbag from Advent Calendar Day 19.  I built this set with my daughter and she loves to take the turtle in and out and pretend that it is going up and down the ramp.  The set includes several extra pieces that she likes to stash in the lower level of the turtle’s oasis.

Launch Contest Winners Announced

Hello, and thanks, everyone, for your patience. It’s been a hectic few days here in the house with everyone pretty much getting sick from the same cold. But the show must go on and I’m here to announce the winners to our official launch contest. So, without further ado, let’s get to the winners list!

New Series 2 Animal Packs Revealed!

I was sent the following screen shot showing the next three animals in Series 2 of the animal packs:

Series 2 Animal Packs

Google’s language tool says that the three animals are a hedgehog, a poodle, and a rabbit. What’s more is that they will be available in starting in May! Here’s what the block text below the animal pictures translates to:

KEEP US WITH YOU!
We just got to Heartlake City and we need a lot of love and cuddles! But when we want a little ‘peace, we take refuge in our houses. Help us to build!

The animals are already available in other sets, but the hedgehog looks like it’s a darker brown the one we’ve already seen in 3188 Heartlake Vet. The rabbit is definitely new in gray since we’ve gotten a white one before. I can’t wait for that one!

New Polybags Revealed for 2013

Brickset has added some new listings revealing some new Friends polybag sets. So far, there are three new ones, I’ve listed them below with pictures:

  • 30106 Ice Cream Stand
  • 30107 Birthday Party
  • 30108 Summer Picnic

I have no idea when or how they’ll be released or how much they’ll cost, but I’ll update the blog when I have more information.

Contest Deadline Extended

Happy New Year!

I realize we were supposed to close out the official site launch contest last night, but due to the holidays and half the family fighting illness, I’ve decided to extend the deadline by a few more days. The contest will definitely close on 11:59pm PST Sunday January 6, 2013. Just to recap the contest, there are three chances to win some great LEGO Friends sets:

  • #1: Register on the site AND comment on this post. One commenter will be selected at random as the winner. The prize? 1 copy of 3185 Summer Riding Camp (MSRP $99.99).
  • #2: Like us on Facebook. One liker will be selected at random as the winner. The prize? 1 copy of 3315 Olivia’s House (MSRP $69.99).
  • #3: Follow us on Twitter. One follower will be selected at random as the winner. The prize? 1 copy of 3189 Heartlake Stables (MSRP $49.99).

And just to reiterate: to win 3185 Summer Riding Camp, you MUST be BOTH registered AND comment on the LEGO Friends Turns One post.  Many of you have registered but haven’t submitted a comment yet.

30105 Mailbox Review

30105_Mailbox_1

This polybag set consists of MiniDoll figure Stephanie, a mailbox with letter, and an outdoor market vendor cart selling flowers, candy and/or cupcakes.

The mailbox is very similar to the one from Day 17 of the advent calendar.  The only differences are the mailbox top which comes to a tapered point and the letter itself which has different graphics.

In my opinion, the highlight is the street market cart because it certainly feels like an early reference to Valentine’s Day…with the huge red heart hanging above and the obvious display of flowers and treats.  I think this could be a preview of more sweetness to come!

Amazon Has All New Friends Sets In Stock

Well, the holidays are over and while we had a blast, it’s time to get back to running this site. If you have holiday money to spend and are looking to get some LEGO Friends sets, Amazaon may have just what you’re looking for. They have all of the newest sets, some even on sale. If you’re looking for the cute animal packs though, you’ll need to go to LEGO Shop@Home for that one. Links are below:

3316 LEGO Friends Advent Calendar Day 24: Vanity Corner

day24Finally, saving the best for last…a cute little vanity corner table with two large cosmetic/perfume jars and a perfectly coiffed plastic wig!  I’ve never owned a wig before so it’s hard for me to imagine if this would be a common item found in a girl’s repertoire of beauty tricks.  It’s definitely a bit odd to me, but it’s all fun so it doesn’t matter anyway.

LEGO Shop@Home Puts Friends on Clearance

LEGO Shop@Home is putting most if not all of the earlier Friends sets on clearance. They are all seeing a 20% discount. Now the sad thing is is that all of the sets are already marked as “sold out” or “retired”. The exception to that is that 3938 Andrea’s Bunny House will be restocked on January 12, 2013. The good news is that if you live near a LEGO store, the clearance discount will apply on the sets they still have in stock. The sale starts on December 25th online and on December 26th in store.

3316 LEGO Friends Advent Calendar Day 23: Another Gift Box

day23Yes this is yet another gift box with the same gift tag/card element as the gift box from advent calendar Day 18.  Aside from being blue and white, this one has a tapered top made up of four little sloped pieces.  I’m a bit disappointed with this one because there has already been two other gift boxes.  I was really looking forward to something different.  Oh well…just another gigantic gift to put under the miniscule holiday tree from yesterday.
